Child Data

British child statures and weights (2 to 15 years) are from the Department of Health 'Health Survey for England' 2003-18.  They have not changed significantly in recent years, for example:

US child statures and weights (2 to 17 years) are from the National Center for Health Statistics, NHANES 2015-16.

Japanese child statures and weights (the only data we have)  are from the Japan Health Survey  2012 (although the health surveys are ongoing this seems to be the latest survey year for which data have been published)

The HUMAG Research Group measured 2000 children aged between 4 and 6 years and 10,000 boys and girls aged from 7 to 16 years, in 1986. The data have been brought up to date using the technique described in Estimation Methods.

Other sources of data used were Snyder et al 1977 and DIN 33 402.

CAUTION must be exercised more than ever when using child anthropometry.  Sample sizes are often only 100 or even less for each age and gender.  Also the children are growing during the year of course.  Consequently the standard deviations are high and the means can vary widely from one survey year to the next.   Therefore your design needs to be more tolerant than for adults, and you should inspect and validate the anthropometry data very carefully before you apply it.
